Training & Certification Pathways

Vakbrug doesn't replace training institutions — it points to them. Below are the real institutions behind every credential named in our pathways, researched directly.

These are the institutions each pathway leads to, based on publicly available information about their programs — not confirmed partnership agreements. Where something isn't publicly confirmed, we say so rather than guess.

Stichting Arbeidsmobilisatie en Ontwikkeling (SAO)

Building a dedicated Welding Institute (four levels, Dutch NIL standard blended with American methods, exams lab-tested with AdeKUS). Runs the Upskill & Excell program with SNTA and LEAF for construction, GaWaSa, and painting trades.

Suriname National Training Authority (SNTA)

Not a training provider itself — sets national standards for vocational training and certifies which programs and institutions are recognized.

NATIN Oil & Gas Program

Offshore oil and gas technical education, run with Staatsolie and the Ministry of Education. Established since 2022; first cohort graduated 2024.

Kersten Training Academy

OPITO-certified safety training, part of the Kersten Group energy division.

Confirm directly whether offshore BOSIET/HUET specifically is offered locally.

HCA Suriname (Heavy Construction Academy)

Heavy equipment and lifting operation, rigging, confined space, working at heights, truck driving, and HAZWOPER training. Private, locally operated since 2016; over 40,000 workers trained.

Surmac Education Center

Operator certification for Caterpillar equipment (progressive levels), plus technical training in diesel, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Kersten Group subsidiary, operating since 1941.

Polytechnic College Suriname (PTC)

Bachelor's degrees including Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Infrastructure, ICT, and Laboratory Education; oil and gas certificates (IADC RigPass, PetroEd); a PLAR route for entry without a secondary diploma.

Anton de Kom University of Suriname (AdeKUS)

Higher engineering and science degrees; partners with SAO to lab-test welding exam work.

Caribbean Tech Academy

An apprenticeship model ("four days work, one day school") in construction, installation technology, and oil and gas — no prior qualifications required, issuing a "SkillsPaspoort" on completion.

Newly launching September 2026 — confirm current intake status.

Safety and Security Academy Suriname (SSAS)

OSHAcademy-authorized safety training — a local alternative route distinct from NEBOSH.

Regional routes — Guyana & Trinidad and Tobago

Suriname does not yet have confirmed local providers for offshore safety induction, NEBOSH, or CSWIP. The region does.

HHSL Safety Systems Limited (Trinidad & Tobago)

OPITO-approved — Tropical BOSIET, BOSIET with EBS or CA-EBS, HUET, FOET, and Rigger/Banksman training.

National Energy Skills Center — NESC (Trinidad & Tobago)

3-year Journeyman Diplomas in Automotive & Heavy Equipment, Building Construction, Plant Operations & Maintenance, Welding, and Drilling Rig Programs.

Guyana Technical Training College, Port Mourant (Guyana)

An ExxonMobil-partnered facility (commissioned 2024) training mechanical, instrumentation, electrical, and production-operations disciplines for oil and gas.

University of Guyana

Engineering degrees, including a BSc Civil with Environmental Engineering (4 years plus a 6-month industrial attachment).
