Meet Alex, a fictional visitor who wants to work as a cook but does not yet have a trade certificate. This walkthrough does not submit an application.
Alex chooses Cook from the sign-up trade dropdown and reports having no trade certificate yet.
After completing the form and consent steps, Alex would see “Pathway needed.” This is not a verified assessment of their skills or a job offer.
The result points to SHTTC’s Kitchen Assistant/Cook Level 1 (10 class days over five weeks), with Level 2 and Level 3 courses after that. Training availability and admission requirements should be checked with SHTTC.
Many skilled workers want a stable income: enough to pay the monthly costs, with something put aside for a rainy day. Running your own business, and later hiring others, is one way to build that. Vakbrug shows you the route, step by step, and where to go for each step.
Test your idea and write a simple business plan.
Choose your legal form (most start as an eenmanszaak) and register with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKF).
Check whether your trade or location needs a business permit. Permits are handled by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation, in some cases together with the district commissioner.
Register with the Tax Authority (Belastingdienst) for your tax identification number and obligations, and as an employer once you hire staff.
Open a business bank account and know your options: savings, bank loans and microcredit. Ask the Ministry of Economic Affairs about current support programs for small businesses.
Find clients and projects on Vakbrug, hire skilled workers through Vakbrug, and build your record and certification.
Vakbrug shows the route and the right offices. We do not register businesses or give legal or financial advice.
Every claim you make is tracked against its actual status — Verified, Self-reported, Flagged, or Spot-checked. Nothing is ever shown as more certain than it is, to you or to any company viewing your profile.
After you sign up, you can view your own submitted profile through your private link.
Listing your profile is an explicit, opt-in choice — separate from filling out your details — and you can request deletion of your documents and profile at any time.
Uploaded documents are used only to verify the specific claim made. They are never held as leverage or used to restrict your freedom to leave a placement or the platform.
Signing up, being listed, and being matched are always free. If anyone ever asks you to pay to be considered for work through Vakbrug, that is not how this platform works.
Submit your profile to see an immediate, self-reported result: Qualified now or the specific training pathway needed. Some trades still show general guidance while their pathways are being researched. Contact us if you have questions.
